WHAT IS YOGA?

What is Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient practice of cultivating a strong union between the mind, body and spirit, as well as uniting the individual self with the universe. Although yoga’s roots come from ancient Indian philosophy, the practice is still very relevant in modern-day Western society. Throughout the twentieth century, yoga made its way to the United States from India by way of a number of knowledgeable practitioners (many of whom are now referred to as the founding fathers of modern day yoga). It quickly gained widespread popularity due to its easy-to-follow holistic approach to achieving profound personal growth and spiritual enlightenment.

Today, it is easy to find many specialized styles of yoga offered throughout the world. All styles of yoga originate from an ancient text called The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which outlines the possible paths that one may take in order to reach a higher level of consciousness.

When one chooses to practice yoga, they are embarking on a personal journey with unbounded potential for personal growth.

Yoga Sessions

During a private yoga session, Julie will begin by helping you define what you’d like to accomplish, whether it be stress reduction, increased flexibility, understanding of yoga philosophy, advancement of your current personal practice, or simply building confidence to attend a group class. You can trust that you will be guided in whichever direction you are looking to grow.

After your goals are clearly defined, Julie will create a personalized practice to support your desired growth. You will be guided through your own personal curriculum, following certain aspects of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, which will depend on your special area of focus. A plan will be put in place to track your progress, so you will be able to monitor your growth and adjust your original plan as needed. We consider the follow up to be just as important as the goal setting process. Remembering where you started is a crucial part of respecting your personal journey
